respond to the blog post:

  • What type of “Self” would you want to express?  i.e. an Ideal, Surreal, Personal, Real?
  • What visually do you want to express to your audience? Show at least 2 examples.
  • What internally (totem, inner truth, heritage, emotional) do you wish to transform into and what is the meaning behind such image?

Post at least one link/image of a Portrait from an artist, and express why it connects to you personally and conceptually.

GRADS:

Take the file given and create abstract non representational animation that synchs up to the beats and notes of the music.  You can be inspired by a wide range of visuals but I will ask you to post 3 works of art by 3 Abstract Non Representational artists from the 20th century.

OPTIONAL (GRADS ONLY): Choose 30 seconds from a modern Jazz (1950/60) Artist to synch your animation to.  You may choose Gershwin the audio file I provided. Shed light on this artist, in terms of:

  • Why you chose the artist?
  • The significance this artist played in the 20th century in regards to music, society and history?
  • How the work will inform, guide and inspire you animation attempt?
  • What type of emotions or concepts do you believe this music will touch upon in your animation?

Ragtime Research Assign

Pick a performer (singer, band leader, composer) from the early Jazz period, Ragtime thru early 1930’s that would best represent your personal story.

Romantic and Classical Music

Romanticism and Classicism are two distinct eras that encompass the Arts, Philosophy, Politics etc.

After listening to Beethoven and Mozart’s symphonic examples, post two examples of music that you listen today.

  • One style that is in the spirit of Classical: Calm, Rational, Balanced.
  • One style that is in the spirit of Romanticism: Emotional, Irrational, Asymmetrical.

Your choices can be contemporary music…i.e. Rap, Dance, Country, Jazz etc.  Just be prepared to explain how that example connects to the appropriate category (Classical or Romanticism)

Character: Does your character’s poses have attitude or empathy?  Are you sincere with this action or are you faking it?

TUESDAY the 28th, we will go over your work and see what input helps you the most.

Dance Research Before Noon Tuesday

record yourself performing the dance sequence.  Remember to keep it simple and have the dance relatively in ONE spot.  Avoid having your feet walking or moving too far from your root position.

Keep these concepts in mind with your dance…

Rhythm/Timing:  Is your hips moving to the beat!

Poses/Spacing:  Good weight, in-betweens spaced appropriately in relation to the key poses.

Character:  Does your character’s poses have attitude or empathy?  Are you sincere with this action or are you faking it?
